About WAV
Waveform Audio File Format
A RIFF-based audio format from Microsoft and IBM, released in 1991, that almost always holds uncompressed PCM. CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB per minute. Use it for editing, mastering and tools that want uncompressed audio; convert away from it to save space.
About WMA
Windows Media Audio
Microsoft's audio codec family, introduced in 1999 and stored in an ASF container, with lossy, lossless and voice variants. Convert from WMA to play old Windows Media files on phones, Macs and players that never supported it.
