About RAS
Sun Raster
The native raster format of Sun workstations running SunOS, stored uncompressed or with run-length encoding. Convert from RAS to open images saved on old Sun systems.
About DDS
DirectDraw Surface
Microsoft's DirectX texture container. It usually stores GPU-compressed data (the DXT or BCn formats) with mipmaps, so a graphics card can load it without decoding. Convert to DDS for game textures and mods; convert from it to view or edit a texture.
