About DPX
Digital Picture Exchange
A SMPTE standard (ST 268) for film scanning and digital intermediate work that stores one frame per file, often at 10 bits per channel. Use it when a film scanning, grading or VFX pipeline exchanges frames as DPX sequences.
About DDS
DirectDraw Surface
Microsoft's DirectX texture container. It usually stores GPU-compressed data (the DXT or BCn formats) with mipmaps, so a graphics card can load it without decoding. Convert to DDS for game textures and mods; convert from it to view or edit a texture.
