About DOCX
Microsoft Word Document
Word's default format since Word 2007: a ZIP archive of XML files for text, styles and embedded media, standardized as Office Open XML (ECMA-376, ISO/IEC 29500). Use it when the file will be edited in Word or Google Docs, or someone asks for a Word document.
About RTF
Rich Text Format
A Microsoft document format from 1987 that stores text and basic formatting as readable control codes. Microsoft stopped updating the specification in 2008. Use it to move formatted text between word processors, including old ones, that share no other format.
