About BMP
Windows Bitmap
Microsoft's bitmap format, which usually stores pixels uncompressed, so files are large for their dimensions. Almost every Windows program can read it. Convert to BMP when an older Windows tool or embedded device only accepts it; convert away from it to save space.
About TGA
Truevision TGA
A raster format created by Truevision in 1984 for its graphics cards, storing pixels raw or with run-length encoding and supporting an alpha channel. Game engines and 3D tools still read it for textures. Use it when a game engine, 3D package or older video tool asks for TGA textures.
